Brenda started out working in a garden center in Spring Arbor, Michigan over 20 years ago. Working tirelessly to support my sister and I there was no time left for personal pursuits. I can recall her dropping us off at school and rushing to work, and not seeing her again until after the store closed. I often went to work with her, because that was where she lived. Eventually they made use of me and gave me a job. Probably to keep me from bothering them with boredom. From the age of 13, I worked with her while she instilled in me a knowledge of plants. She would quiz me about common and latin names everywhere we went. From it I also gained a solid work ethic and a desire to share the love of growing things with others. As her expertise grew so did her continued thirst for knowledge. Now 20 years later she is as motivated as ever. As an active member and now Co- President of the Eaton Rapids Garden Club, she continues to bring beauty to the public. She also pursues her education of trends in environmentalism and native gardening.

After years of talking about it, it's all coming together! Plants and people are our passion. And we are finally working from our own business to bring plants, people and inspiration together. It is truly an exciting time for us and we can't wait to share it with all of you. Brenda has been working two acres of her humble, farmstead, yard, with little more than a shovel and a whole lot of plants for some six years now. She has changed the landscape from a flat, occasionally mowed, grassy lot. Into a wandering collection of landscaped beds, featuring many varieties of woody and herbaceous perennials, evergreens, flowering trees, and thousands of spring bulbs. Ever a work in progress, it is a feast for the senses in every season, both for its plants and wildlife. There is still no place that I feel more relaxed than in my mother's gardens.

In the last couple of years there has been a growing awareness of xeriscaping and native plants. Likewise, there are a growing number of natives and hybridized natives in the gardens here. You can also expect to see many varieties of mature hosta. Not only will we be adding new varieties to the collection, but we will make a point of offering rare and unusual cultivars to you. We get tired of seeing the same old things in big box stores. And we always wonder if it will even survive the ride home in the car. It is our mission to seek out the rare, know how it grows and what it needs, and pass along that knowledge and plant to you.

Growing food is another important part of people's lives right now! I know it is certainly part of mine. Whether you have an expansive garden plot, space restricted urban garden or patio container garden, we can help you get the best out of it and guide you through healthier growing practices. We will be offering a wide selection of organic and heirloom seed in an effort to preserve diversity and promote healthy living and gardening practices. We can bring to you a knowledge of different growing environments and experiences. Brenda, with her large windswept yard. And I have a very small urban garden where every inch matters and I mix my vegetables into my landscape so I don't have to sacrifice beauty or productivity.
